Compassionate Hearts

Lately, I have been drawn into the core of the Gospel and captivated by God’s amazing love for people. It’s unconditional, raw, real, and genuine. It’s also available for all people to respond to, although not all will engage it. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to experience personally this grace and compassion on a very real and deep level.

I think about the times where my son, Seth, simply runs up to anyone to give them a hug. It doesn’t matter who it is, my boy has such a deep sympathy for people that is contagious to watch. There is an innocence there that I want and desire to be at the forefront of my life again. Recently, during a family trip to the mall, a seemingly nice stranger held the door open for my crew. It was quite the gesture. Seth’s response? A hug! It was quite the sight to behold. The guy’s response was a hearty, “That’s awesome!”

There’s no doubt in my mind that we should approach the Lord in the same way. Jesus was deeply moved in his spirit in the story of Lazarus, which Jesus declares, “Lazarus, come out!” Followed by, “Unbind him and set him free.”

God wants us to run to Him in innocence and freedom even when we have messed up something in life. We don’t need to get cleaned up in order to come to Him. We need to come to Him to be cleansed, renewed, unbound, and free. Jesus declares life and love over us when other attempts have failed by our own efforts! Won’t you embrace this reality? Won’t you embrace His compassionate heart? He wears for you and longs for you! That’s the amazing love that is revealed to each one of us this day! His compassionate heart is for you!

Much Love, Jay
