I look around and see people that are hungry for more. Even today, I sit in this makeshift office, staring out the window, dreaming and people watching. I see people that are going through life and appear to be caught up in the moment, but in the long run are aimless in their pursuits.
It seems commonplace when I talk to individuals about what goals they have and their desires in life. They want to want something, but they don’t know how to describe it. They hunger for something deeper than themselves, but any description that is offered is put on the back burner.
I encourage you to take the journey and launch yourself into this new year with new resolve and well-meaning purpose. You don’t have to sit still and wait for life to come your wait. You can press into God even when you don’t understand what He is all about or how He operates.
We can do this because God is a relational God! I am convinced and convicted with three different areas of my life that I want transformed, as I pursue this craving that is found in the depths of my heart. Maybe you can relate, maybe you can’t. Nevertheless, here they are:
1) Grow in becoming a man of powerful prayer. After all, why not? I want to be one who is able to approach the throne of grace with confidence in Jesus Christ. I can’t do this in my own power and ability, but as one who has a heart after the Lord, I can come desperate, hungry, and desiring more of Him.
2) Grow in preparedness for happenings in life personally and professionally. Unlike the first one, my mind isn’t as clouded at being able to put a value or goal on this area. I think that this is about prioritizing and focusing where my time is being spent. Involved in this process, too, is cutting away the areas that my life doesn’t need to be about.
Of course there are going to be things in life that we don’t want to do, the necessary evils. But, I find that that some of the things that I am involved with aren’t these necessary evils to get the regular job or calling done, they are distractions that take me away from keeping the main thing, the main thing. I want to plan ahead and allow flexibility to have it’s proper time, for when emergencies come about, availability is a must!
3) Grow in presenting a passionate Gospel message. While I know that I don’t know the answer to all of life’s questions and difficulties, I know the one who does. I want to know Jesus more and more each and every day. I want the story of transformation that He has done in my heart and life to happen for other people, too.
The hunger and the cravings for depth, meaning, and purpose can only be found in the transformational nature of Jesus. It can’t be found in anything or anyone else. Other things will satisfy for awhile, but only one stand the test of all time.
These are some of the things that I am resolving for my life in 2015. I hope and pray that you take the opportunity to focus your life in this new season and new year. I know that we are nearly two weeks in, but why not desire to have resolve carry you forward on a permanent basis instead of something that is temporary.
Go after the craving! Go after Jesus!
Much Love, Jay
