There are many masks that we wear in our lives. The reasons why are too numerous to share here, but the end result is projecting a false identity on an audience of people that see us on an ongoing basis. We desire them to think about us in a certain way and, likewise, I’m willing to guess we want to think about ourselves in a different way, too, because of our difficientcies and our weaknesses. We don’t want to be reminded of how needy we are for help and assistance.
Maybe it’s time to take off the mask and lay it down before the one who defines our identity and continues to provide the resources we need in this life? Perhaps it’s time to come to an understanding of how needy we are for the relationship that we were meant to have with Jesus? Perhaps it is time to surrender the mask of perpetual shame, doubt, ongoing worry, and negative beliefs about ourselves and others.
Today, I encourage you to not only take off the mask, but surrender it before the one who loves you in every season of life. Others will fail us, but Jesus does not. Surrender all the complexities, all the drama, and allow Jesus to rewrite the definition of your identity on your heart. Each of us were on His mind when He went on the cross for our sins. Perhaps you need the redefinition of your heart! Crave His presence to move and work on you from the inside out and surrender the mask!
Much Love, Jay
