Mission Monday

For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. – 1 Corinthians 1:17

Have you ever gone through a time in your life where you felt like you are constantly distracted? It’s almost as though your life lacks focus and identity? Maybe you sense that you aren’t sure of what you are investing your life into, constantly questioning whether or not your efforts are worth it in the long run.

There’s no doubt that you aren’t the only one that deals with some of these restless feelings. You aren’t the only one that has gone through a season of lacking focus. You aren’t the only one who has questioned whether or not your efforts are worth it. I think that most people go through different seasons of life experiencing the same feelings of inadequacy and identity crisis. 

Paul, a very prominent early church leader, was one that had to wrestle with some of these same distractions and things that were really taking him off of his dependency on God and putting the emphasis on other things. Certainly there are many good options for us to identity with in this life, but there are very few choices and lifestyle efforts that we were designed for. The good news? They are out there. The bad news? There are a ton of interruptions that really prevent us from finding what we are made for, distracting us from what God has for our lives. 

And while we all can identity with these times of questioning, it is important to remember to come back to waiting and leaning in on God for His direction. We can assume at times what His will and direction is for our lives and there is His incredible grace that covers over a multitude of our sin, but if we have the patience and the tenacity to simply wait we will discover what our lives are meant to be about!

Baptizing people is a beautiful thing, but Paul was made and designed to partner with God in sharing the Gospel with others. What is your role in the Kingdom? What has God designed you for? Perhaps right now, the appropriate action is to wait and discover what God wants you to be about by first revealing to you that you need Him to make it happen!
