I have always had a knack for writing and journaling. I am a composition book junkie. If I don’t have a composition book with me, it’s almost as though I am missing part of my brain. I’m always jotting down notes, ideas, thoughts, message illustrations, really whatever is on my mind that I deem beneficial for me to revisit in the future.
There has been an ongoing internal debate how to get started with writing. I have a passion for it and want to grow in understanding the business of it, but it wasn’t until a recent meeting with a friend and Infuzion® board member who challenged me to get going with it. He mentioned a rule that leaders need to often implement in their own lives and it is the idea of putting together six tangible goals that can be accomplished in six weeks. He called it the 6×6 rule.
As our conversation continued to develop, my friend challenged me in my understanding in another way, too. He said, “Jay, you are already doing plenty of writing and you already have a passion for it. Now, perhaps it is time to look at turning that writing into getting published.” Needless to say, I was wrecked because he was right. I have been writing all along, but there has been this lingering fear of being judged or feeling too naive to pursuing this endeavor.
Between the 6×6 rule and the personal challenge from my friend, along with a unique writing opportunity that has presented itself, I now have a goal in place to work on writing with a specific goal and purpose in mind. It has been given direction and by October 13, I will complete a few devotional entries that will be printed in an upcoming publication and have a framework put into place for a new book and writing project that I want to have published by the end of 2016.
It’s a new adventure into a longstanding passion of mine to minister, encourage, and inspire people in the ways of the Lord. To grow closer to Him in relationship and see the incredible opportunity to use our influence to bring others closer to Him. The specific content of my book will be revealed in the upcoming weeks and months right here in this blog space, but I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about embarking on this new journey.
Perhaps you have a dream that needs to be developed. Maybe it’s time to establish a few goals that you can accomplish in the six weeks. Don’t forget to celebrate those accomplishments when they are completed! It’s time to begin to put your dreams into motion. Take the first practical steps and gain some traction, for you never know what sort of impact you will have on somone’s life!
Much Love, Jay
