Family

Wednesday is usually a pretty important day for the Trainer household. It has become our weekly family day. On this day, we tend to keep a low profile, do special activities together, enjoy a meal together, and make sure that it is a special time for everyone that is involved. Occasionally, we have guests over or do something with another family, but we make sure that Wednesday remains a sacred and special time for each person in our family.

Yesterday, our family went apple picking. It has become a regular family tradition filled with a ton of laughter and enjoyment with each other. We eat our fill, pick some apples to take home, roll them at each other, go find the horses on the farm, eat donuts, drink cider, see the pigs on the farm, laugh, feed the pigs and horses our leftover apples, laugh some more, and then head home.

Not everyone has traditions, regular customs, or even a family to do stuff together. I can’t tell you the importance of having loved ones in your life that you can laugh with, cry with, and establish regular routines with in life. Everyone should have the opportunity to be able to set aside regular special times to do some crazy fun activities with your loved ones.

All of this has come about because of being intentional in doing it. We never started our regular Wednesday traditions by accident. These days were set aside on purpose with the intent of growing our family closer together. Sometimes food is involved, sometimes it is going to see a movie of some sorts, sometimes it is just making a visit to a local playground. All of it, though, is based on the focus and intention of protecting our family and its boundaries.

No matter where you are at, I would encourage you to take the time to develop your family, whatever definition you have for it, and be intentional with this time. They are your loved ones and people that are important to you and to the Lord. Laugh together, play together, cry together, be vulnerable together. You can create a safe place for your loved ones to be with one another and enjoy their time! Simply be intentional and focused and watch what God will do with your time together!

Much Love, Jay
